Core Volunteer Program

Northwood
Applications open

Six main volunteer roles across Northwood’s campuses, from recreation therapy to the seniors radio station. Most resident programming happens during the day, so the greater need is daytime volunteers — Saturdays included; evening and Sunday openings are much more limited.

Roles

Recreation Therapy volunteer
Weekly support during therapeutic recreation — music, crafts, group games; escorting residents is a large part of it
Adult Day Program
Socialization and companionship with supervision, giving caregivers a day of respite
NWBC seniors radio broadcaster
Northwood’s radio station airs 365 days a year and reaches over 30,000 homes · Volunteers@nwood.ns.ca
Entertainment volunteer
Music, theatre or dance for residents — bring whatever talent you have

What you need

One shift a week for at least four months
Ideally the same day and time each week, 2–3 hours
Recreation roles: wheelchair training and dementia understanding
Able to express yourself clearly in English

Worth knowing

Daytime and Saturday shifts are the easiest to get
