Wim Wenders Retrospective: Wings of Desire – Nov 21

Wim Wenders' poetic masterpiece about two angels watching over Berlin is screening at Carbon Arc—a perfect rainy Saturday night vibe with existential vibes and stunning black-and-white cinematography.

Saturday, November 21, 8:30 PM Wim Wenders | Germany | 1987 | 128m German, English, French, Turkish, Hebrew, Spanish with English subtitles Our retrospective focuses on German director Wim Wenders this month. We present three classics from the auteur's oeuvre, The American Friend (1977), Paris, Texas (1984), and Wings of Desire (1987) screening Saturday nights in November! Two angels, Damiel (Bruno Ganz) and Cassiel (Otto Sander), glide through the streets of Berlin, observing the bustling population, providing invisible rays of hope to the distressed but never interacting with them. When Damiel falls in love with lonely trapeze artist Marion (Solveig Dommartin), the angel longs to experience life in the physical world, and finds—with some words of wisdom from actor Peter Falk (playing himself)—that it might be possible for him to take human form. Beyond ravishing, Wings of Desire is Wim Wenders' aching and heartbreaking exploration of how love makes us human. "A cinema of ideas, almost an essay movie, and utterly distinctive." - Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian "A stunningly made valentine to the city of Berlin, which has never been more imaginatively or more beautifully filmed. A joy from start to finish." - David Stratton, At The Movies Tickets $12 ($11.40 at the door if available) Saturday, November 21, 8:30 PM tickets Tagged coming soon
