Nocturne: Art at Night is Halifax’s free all-night contemporary art festival, one Saturday every October. The 2026 edition, themed Embodied City, puts 79 projects in squares, wharves, galleries, church steps and on the Alderney ferry across six zones: Downtown Halifax, the Waterfront, Spring Garden + Universities, the North End + Quinpool, and Downtown Dartmouth. Everything opens at 6 PM and nearly all of it runs to midnight.
Anchor projects: Festival of BodyWork at Grand Parade, [ The Frame ] in the AGNS courtyard, City You Imagined at the Granville Park stage, and Red Earth/Black Sea at the World Peace Pavilion in Ferry Terminal Park, Dartmouth.
Also: a Thursday lead-up Scan-a-thon at the Halifax Municipal Archives (Oct 15, 3 to 6 PM) and Low-Sensory Sunday, a daytime sensory-friendly project in the Public Gardens (Oct 18, noon to 5).
Every project, sorted by zone with hours and access notes: our Nocturne 2026 guide. Official festival site: nocturnehalifax.ca.
