Outdoor Screening: Thelma and Louise — Carbon Arc – Aug 16

Thelma and Louise is screening outdoors in the Museum of Natural History backyard—a perfect rowdy night with friends, plus it's free and has a cozy indoor backup plan if the weather gets sketchy.

Thursday, August 13, 9:00 PM (outdoors!) - UPDATE: Due to wet weather, now screening indoors Sunday, August 16, 7:30 PM (indoors!) - show added Ridley Scott | USA | 1991 | 129 mins IMPORTANT: This is an outdoor screening happening in the backyard of the Museum of Natural History! If the weather turns ugly on the night, we will head into the indoor auditorium as usual. “I don't remember ever feeling this awake.” Shy housewife Thelma (Genna Davis) is married to Daryl who likes his wife to stay quiet in the kitchen so that he can watch football on TV. Sharp-tongued Louise (Susan Sarandon) is working in a diner as a waitress and dealing with a non-committal musician boyfriend. The two friends decide to go on a weekend road trip to escape their banal realities. When Louise kills a man who tries to rape Thelma after she breaks out of her shell with some dancing in a bar, the pair embark on an accidental crime spree and a race to reach freedom in Mexico. 35 years after its release, Thelma and Louise still sparks conversations about its relation to feminism, and is still a ride or die fable of female friendship anchored by two actresses with unmatchable chemistry. This 35th anniversary screening of Thelma and Louise will, appropriately, be screened OUTSIDE in The Museum of Natural History’s Garden. Special guest, Halifax writer and filmmaker Tara Thorne ( Compulsus, Lakeview ) will introduce the show. Thelma and Louise has been her favourite film since she was 13. "One cannot but share these women's exultation as they answer 'the call of the wild', speeding along the highway in a convertible T-bird, chugging Wild Turkey, swapping delightful one-liners and harmonising with the radio." - Angie Errigo, Empire "An appealing, funny, sexy, quick-witted film that completely reimagines the buddy movie structure. It features a sparkling screenplay, beautiful, interesting women as daring anti-heroes, and truly glorious cinematography." - Janet Maslin, The New York Times Winner: Best Original Screenplay (Callie Kouri), 64th Academy Awards, 1992 Tickets $12 ($11.40 at the door if available) Note: Thursday tickets are for an outdoor screening . Remember to bring your picnic blankets, warm rugs and/or fold-out chairs! Thursday, August 13, 9:00 PM tickets OUTDOORS on Thursday (if weather holds)!
